About the St Joseph's Green Knights Basketball Program
The basketball program at St Josephs offers an instructional and competitive traveling basketball program to boys and girls in three levels; Grades 3-4, Grades 5-6, Grades 7-8. For over 30 years, the coaches and parents of St Josephs have been teaching children sound fundamental basketball skills, while stressing the importance of good sportsmanship, building character, and focusing on a team oriented approach. The program begins in October with practices and league games start in early December. Our teams compete in the "Northern Valley Parochial School Basketball League," which is the premier league in Bergen County.
It is an extremely competitive basketball league, offering our children the opportunity to compete against some of the best talent in the county. Participation in the Green Knights program is open to any student in the St Joseph school, as well as any non-student who participates in the St Joseph Religious Education Program (CCD).
Furthermore, during the summer months and continuing up to the start of the season, St Josephs holds weekly open gyms and clinics for basketball.
Troop #790 capped a busy and successful year with their 2011 community service project, filling eight bags with litter from the Ross Dock area beach in the Palisades Interstate Park, Fort Lee. In addition to this annual community service, the troop sold a record number of cookies this year and with the proceeds, were able to make substantial contributions to the American Red Cross for Tornado Relief, St. Jude’s Childrens’ Research Hospital and the Food Pantry of St. Joseph Parish in honor of Mary Sause. Also this year, the troop earned seven Junior badges together and sold 124 boxes of Girl Scout cookies to be donated (through the GS Gift of Caring program) to US troops serving in Afghanistan. This is the second year they have performed this service to the troops.
